Eat a Balanced, Wholesome Diet
Perhaps one of the best things we can do to support a healthy immune system is to feed it well by eating a nutritious and balanced diet. This means eating a wide range of colourful fruits and vegetables including:
Citrus fruits – packed with immune loving vitamin C that helps to strengthen the immune system. Choose from a variety of oranges, lemons, grapefruits, clementines, kiwis and limes. The human body doesn’t store vitamin C, it excretes any excess in the urine, so make sure you’re eating these foods every day as they can also improve your heart health.
Green leafy vegetables – it pays to eat your greens! Eating an array of pak choi, spinach and kale will also help to top up your vitamin C levels.
Broccoli – a powerhouse of vitamins, antioxidants and essential minerals, aim to eat broccoli a few times a week for its immune system supporting nutrition. Try to cook it as little as possible so that it maintains it’s nutritional integrity.
Garlic – garlic helps to support a healthy immune system due to a compound called allicin, a sulphur containing compound that has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Add it to all your homecooked dishes!
