Although berries are sweet, they have a low glycaemic index (or GI, a measure of how quickly a food is broken down into sugars during digestion, the lower the GI then better the food for keeping blood sugar levels, and consequently hunger levels, stabilised) and sugar content.

You can take your pick too; between raspberries, blueberries, goji, strawberries and blackberries. With high levels of antioxidants, berries are effective at combating the damaging effects caused by free radicals.

Additionally, eating berries may help decrease cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure and lower inflammation, which makes it a food that’s very healthy indeed. Antioxidants are linked to weight control, and researchers have found that people who consume more antioxidants weigh less, even when they don’t eat fewer calories.

Both fresh or frozen berries can be added to cereal or yogurt for breakfast, blended into a smoothie or added into baked goods. Have a handful as a snack regularly to keep your body burning fat efficiently. Many are pretty easy to grow in a pot too if you want to have your own regular supply!
