Mate (pronounced “ma-tay” and also known as yerba mate) is a traditional South American caffeine-rich drink made from a natural herb. Much like green tea, mate tea can help promote fat and weight loss. Mate can also boost energy and increase mental focus, reduce fatigue and protect against infections, which can boost weight loss by allowing us to exercise at an increased rate or intensity.

Studies have found that the herb contributed to a reduction in body fat and a lowered BMI in those regularly drinking the tea. While they can’t pinpoint exactly why mate helps to promote weight loss, the study authors believe that it’s due to its high concentrations of caffeine that has a fat-burning effect.
