If you drink a lot of cow’s milk, you might want to think about switching to another form of the white stuff as it could actually be harming your health. Cow’s milk contains lactose, a sugar which can be difficult to digest and if you’re intolerant, which many people are, you could suffer from a variety of nasty symptoms, including nausea, bloating, and cramps.

Some people are lactose intolerant but aren’t aware of it – and one way to tell is to see how you feel after drinking milk. If you experience stomach issues shortly after consuming milk, it might be worth getting checked out to see if you have this condition.

Cow’s milk also contains casein, which can encourage the growth of tumours, with one Korean study finding that it promotes the acceleration of prostate cancer cells. Casein makes up approximately 87% of the protein in cow’s milk and is often used as a polymer to make plastics, as it is a strong binder, but scientists are now discovering that it might not be so great when it’s ingested. Clinical studies have also indicated that cow’s milk could be responsible for causing non-seasonal asthma and migraines, so if you can switch to an alternative, like almond or rice milk, you’ll likely be improving your health.
