Getting the most from your moisturiser
After all these benefits, you might be wondering how to moisturise your skin to get the most from your beauty regime. So, it’s important to choose a facial moisturiser that’s right for your skin type; be that oily, dry, combination, normal, sensitive or acne-pone. Most skincare brands will highlight which products are suitable for which skin type.
Body-wise, choose a rich, buttery body lotion – a naturally scented one will enhance the experience!
For both the face and the body, always moisturise after cleansing, showering or bathing. This is when the skin is at its most vulnerable because it’s just had its protective sebum temporarily removed. Using a moisturiser on slightly damp skin will help to seal in moisture.
Use a pea-sized amount on your face, and ensure you cover everything from your hairline, down past your temples, cheeks and nose across your chin and down to your jawline. Don’t forget your neck and décolletage too, both will benefit from a facial cream with active ingredients. Then, use a body lotion on your entire body, not forgetting your feet.
Well moisturised skin isn’t just down to what creams we use. Staying well hydrated with water and herbal teas is essential, as is eating a diet rich in skin-loving nutrients so fill up on fresh fruits and vegetables, wholegrains, good fats and lean protein. Tomatoes, cucumbers and fruits all have high water contents that will help you stay hydrated and avoid too much salt, caffeine and alcohol that are all dehydrating.
Your skin will thank you for it!
