The humble banana is a staple amongst runners and gym goers as it offers immediate energy with a side of beneficial vitamins and minerals. But can eating bananas support our mental health too?

It turns out, they could well do! Bananas are rich in vitamin B6, which the body requires in order to both manufacture and utilise serotonin. Serotonin is one of our feel good chemicals and if we have higher levels, we’re less likely to feel low or struggle with the symptoms of depression.

Eat a banana ‘naked’ as it comes or add one to a breakfast smoothie along with blueberries, pea milk, peanut butter and hemp powder for a protein fuelled start to the day. They’re also great chopped up and added to your favourite nut butter on brown toast.
