6. Can Reduce our Risk of Developing Cancer
Anything that promises to “prevent cancer” should be challenged and taken with a pinch of salt. Cancer is a complex disease with many different causes (including genetic causes) and treatments.
But eating a healthy, balanced diet and living an active lifestyle with stress levels as low as possible is thought to help reduce our chances of developing cancer at some stage in our lives. Eating apples regularly can form part of this healthy approach to life.
Studies suggest that the polyphenols found in apples can help to prevent or at least slow down the rate at which cancerous cells multiple, causing a tumour to grow. It’s thought this effect could be most beneficial to tumours of the lung, breast and digestive tract.
So far, studies have been on cancerous cells in test tubes, using concentrated extracts of the polyphenols found in apples, but it’s an interesting prospect nonetheless and further studies are recommended.
