1. Set Realistic Weight Loss Goals
When starting out on your weight loss journey, it’s important to set realistic goals that you can meet – and one of the best ways to do this is to start small. Make the milestones you aim to reach incremental ones, not massive unobtainable hurdles, as you’ll feel as if you’re seeing success faster and will be motivated to keep going. One of the hardest things about trying to lose weight is running out of steam, so when you do reach crucial steps along your journey, make sure to congratulate yourself and use them as positive reinforcement!
Don’t focus on a too far off goal, like losing 28 lbs, because you’ll only feel frustrated when you step on the scales and see a minimal weight loss. Instead, make your next target to lose another 5 or 7 lbs, as you’ll be able to reach that quicker and you’ll feel more determined to continue when you do.
Unrealistic diet goals don’t just encourage you to fall off the weight loss wagon, in some people they can also promote unhealthy eating habits. Don’t be tempted to skip meals, or eat too little just because your ultimate weight target appears to be a long way off, as you still need enough of the right kind of healthy food. A diet is a marathon not a sprint, so don’t go too fast and make sure you give your body plenty of nourishment. Remember, when it comes to weight loss, if you stay on track, you’ll get there in the end and by setting realistic goals, you’ll be more likely to stay the course and keep the weight off once you reach your goal.
