For a few years now, CBD has had a coming of age – it’s everywhere. You’ll find it in oils, vapes, gummies, capsules and even skincare. Now, it’s available in a variety of sparkling soft drinks from TRIP, and when I was asked to try them, I jumped at the chance.
First things first – CBD won’t get you high. That’s the job of THC found in cannabis products. Cannabis and CBD come from the same Cannabis sativa plant, but this remarkable plant contains over 100 active compounds called cannabinoids. CBD and THC are both cannabinoids, THC has psychoactive properties, CBD doesn’t.
Now that we have that cleared up, because CBD is now so ubiquitous, I must mention quality. To gain any benefit from CBD, it has to be pure and of high quality. TRIP pride themselves on only using premium, hemp-derived CBD in their UK crafted products (that also include a cold brewed black coffee and CBD oils). Each product is third party tested for purity and to ensure they’re free from THC. It’s an alcohol-free drink and a great alternative if you’re sober or trying to reduce your alcohol intake.
Calm, an improved mood, better sleep and better productivity
I tried the TRIP Elderflower Mint drink in the evening. Rather than stick to the usual sickly tropical fruit or fake tasting wild berry flavours so common among soft drink brands, it was great to see that TRIP has fresh, natural flavours chosen with impeccable pairing qualities. I love elderflower and I love mint, and the flavour of this drink didn’t disappoint.
I spent the evening feeling more calm than normal, the usual challenges not feeling quite so challenging. I then got into bed and immediately slipped into a blissful sleep. I don’t normally have a problem falling asleep; however, I do often struggle to stay asleep. But I woke the following morning having no 3am wideawake-ness anxiety to report, and certainly no grogginess.

I sipped on the TRIP Peach Ginger drink, as recommended, to get me through the mid-afternoon slump and again, the delicate flavours and light sparkle were perfect. I’m not usually a fan of ginger and tend to avoid it in drinks, but the delicate zing to this drink with the subtle (real) sweetness of peach, made it much more enjoyable that I envisaged. Like the elderflower and mint, there was not even a hint of the bitterness that CBD oils have and I’d definitely go back for more.
It was a Friday afternoon, and normally, by the end of the week, productivity is a struggle. But I can honestly say, after enjoying this drink, I whizzed through the briefs I had for that day, with the vigour of a Tuesday morning (because who feels vigorous on a Monday morning?).
Mood-wise, I noticed an improvement too. Struggling with the perimenopause, my moods can quite often dip, but I noticed a very positive uplift and ‘lightness’ for the rest of the afternoon. Perhaps due to my pride in increased positivity, perhaps due to the CBD.
Either way, it felt good.
Grown up flavours, no sickly sweetness and suitable for vegans
Each TRIP CBD infused drink contains natural adaptogens (that help the body better deal with stress) and 15mg of CBD. TRIP promise the notions of “resetting and rebalancing” so that we can feel our best selves. And they’re definitely not wrong.
