Pomegranates are a beautiful fruit. Unlike other fruits, only their seeds are eaten. The seeds are delicious on their own as a snack, or as part of a dessert.
They contain a kind of antioxidant that helps to thin the blood by preventing blood to form clots and eventually lead to heart attacks and strokes. They also contain punicic acid – an acid that helps to lower cholesterol and reduce blood pressure. All of these factors together help to reduce the chances of developing a fatal heart problem.
The results of a 2013 study concluded that consuming 150ml of pomegranate juice every day can reduce hypertension and lower blood pressure. A second study showed that in patients with heart disease, drinking pomegranate juice helped to improve blood flow around the heart. As well as their heart benefits, pomegranates may improve memory and brain function. In a trial of people suffering from memory problems, their memory improved after drinking pomegranate juice daily for 4 weeks.
