Walking helps to lower your blood sugar levels

High blood sugar levels can lead to metabolic syndrome or prediabetes, which in turn can lead to type 2 diabetes. Having type 2 diabetes can lead to other health problems including eyesight difficulties, heart disease, poor circulation and even erection problems in men. So it makes sense to do all we can to make sure our blood sugar levels don’t get dangerously high.

This can be done by eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean protein sources, healthy fats and wholegrains. But another very important factor, is exercise.

Studies suggest that taking a brisk 15 minute walk after eating your three main meals a day can help to reduce the spike in blood sugars that comes from eating a meal, especially one rich in carbohydrates. Even if you can’t realistically fit in three short walks a day, walking for half an hour after a main meal can also help to keep blood sugar levels in check.
