Salad

Salad made from plenty of fresh lettuce leaves, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, spring onions, carrots and whatever other salad veggies we like to add, is an amazingly healthy meal as it’s one packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants – the so-called micronutrients.

The problem is, there isn’t much, if anything, in the way of filling macronutrients, meaning that very soon after eating a plain salad, we’re likely to feel hungry again. The macronutrients are the carbs, proteins and fats in our foods, and are responsible for providing energy and making us feel full.

Fats are calorific and carbohydrates are turned into sugars during digestion. It’s important to include both in our diet but protein is great at filling us up, providing energy and keeping us full until our next meal. Adding protein to our salads is therefore a great way of turning a healthy meal into a super healthy meal! So opt for lean, grilled chicken breast, fish, eggs, tofu, chickpeas, nuts and seeds to supercharge your salad and allow it to keep hunger at bay for longer.
