Eating Well to Boost Your Mood

Choosing foods that support brain health will also help to support good emotional wellbeing. Like all aspects of our health, eating an overall healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables, lean protein, wholegrains and good fats, along with an active, low stress lifestyle will give us a better chance of achieving a good state of mental health.

When we choose to eat healthily most of the time, allowing ourselves some occasional treats, we’re also, almost unknowingly, supporting our mental wellbeing. Choosing highly processed foods that are high in saturated fat, salt and sugar might taste nice temporarily, but they’re unlikely to sustain us. Instead, they’re more likely to make us feel sluggish, overweight and even guilty, that can all lead to a low mood.

If you’re struggling with a low mood or depression, it’s important to speak to someone. Either a trusted loved one or a medical professional who can help you. Either way, make health-giving dietary choices and give your mental wellbeing a boost!
