11. Goji berries
In recent years, goji berries have earned themselves a superfood crown, due to their extraordinarily high antioxidant content. Antioxidants help to neutralise unstable molecules called free radicals that can cause damage to our cells and DNA.
Available as whole dried berries or as a concentrated powder, goji berries can be sprinkled on cereal and muesli, or added to smoothies and shakes.
Goji berries are also rich in healthy fibre, which contributes to their carb content, supports a healthy bowel and helps to keep us full.
But the nutritional prowess of goji berries comes from their high carotenoid content. Carotenoids are compounds that give goji berries their deep red colour, but they also act as powerful antioxidants.
These antioxidants in particular support good cognitive function, meaning that they support a healthy brain that’s able to think, remember, concentrate and reason well.
Summary:
One cup of prepared goji berries contains around 32g of carbohydrate. Goji berries are rich in antioxidants that contribute to good overall physical and mental health.
