The practice of yoga has been in existence for over 5,000 years. Regular yoga naturally brings an increase in wellness to both mind and body, and, depending on which of the 100 forms of yoga you follow, a sense of relaxation or stimulation. Yin yoga is one branch of the discipline which helps calm the mind while gently stretching the body.

Yin yoga was founded in the 1970s and is a form of Taoist yoga, with its principles based on the ancient Taoist health and spiritual traditions of ancient China. Yin yoga concentrates on the deep connective tissues of the body, such as ligaments, joints and bones. The workout focuses on the lower half of the body, as this is where most of our deep connective tissue is found. A Yin yoga class usually consists of a series of floor poses which are held for up to five minutes each or longer. By concentrating on holding a pose, the mind stops its irrelevant chatter and the body becomes more flexible.

Yin yoga allows us to look inside ourselves to find that quiet, calm place where we are naturally patient and non-reactive. A place where peace reigns.
