2. Slows down the signs of ageing
Dry, dehydrated skin can look uneven and feel rough to the touch, but it’s also at risk of looking aged, too. This is because well hydrated and moisturised skin cells are more plump and therefore more youthful looking.
Many moisturisers also contain advanced, active ingredients that do more than just a basic moisturiser. For example, retinoids, derivatives of vitamin A, help to even out the skin tone, increase skin cell turnover and stimulate the production of collagen. Peptides are like ‘mini proteins’ that also stimulate collagen production and vitamin C helps to prevent UV skin ageing.
This amazing benefit of using a moisturiser each day mainly relates to the skin on our faces, but there are also anti-ageing body lotions and creams available.
Top tip – exfoliate your skin once or twice a week to slough away dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This not only helps to reveal the fresh new skin cells that have worked their up to the surface (which instantly adds a youthful glow) but it also helps your moisturiser sink into the skin more easily, to where it’s needed, making it even more effective.
