The relationship between our diet and our sleep
Being mindful of the food we eat in the evening, making considered, careful choices can have a significant impact on our sleep. As you can see from our list of foods that you should never eat in the evening, it isn’t just caffeine that can interrupt our sleep patterns! Surprisingly too, certain foods could even be affecting our weight as we sleep.
Filling up on healthy meals throughout the day and making our last meal of the day sleep-friendly won’t just help us achieve better sleep (and a better mood the next day). We won’t be digesting difficult, heavy meals whilst we’re asleep, potentially leading to weight gain.
Adding to this, if we experience poor sleep, we’re more likely to crave carbohydrates, sugar and comfort foods, which can lead to weight gain and poor digestion. Therefore, it’s really important to eat right in the evening.
The relationship between out diet and our sleep is a complicated one, and studies are revealing more and more links that support the idea that our sleep quality is directly linked to the quality of our diet.
What will you eat for dinner tonight? It’s definitely food for thought, isn’t it?
