13. Bananas
Completely delicious, relatively cheap, highly nutritious and handily contained within their own biodegradable packaging, bananas are great for snacking on or for eating when we need an energy boost on the go. They’re also great on toast with peanut butter and chopped into cereals.
Carb-wise, most of their high carb content comes from fruit starches, the rest from fruit sugars. Fun fact – the less ripe the banana, the more starch and less sugar you’ll be consuming. Starch from bananas helps to support a healthy gut by feeding the good bacteria that reside there.
Bananas are packed with potassium, that helps to support good heart health by having a naturally lowering effect on blood pressure. They’re also rich in vitamins B6 and C and make a perfectly healthy snack.
Summary:
One medium sized banana contains around 27g of carbohydrates. Healthy and convenient, they’re packed with plant starches, vitamins and essential minerals.
